The coastline of Northern California and Southern Oregon is home to some of the most difficult and rewarding fishing opportunities in the region. One reason for the difficulty is that most of these rivers only return winter runs of steelhead, which tend to spend less time in the rivers compared to their summer run counterparts. The coast also receives much more precipitation than our inland climates, so the river flows are often volatile. The key to success out here depends on knowing when to drop your plans and hit the river.
